This podcast has often been focused on people’s personal journeys, or on ways to design your life. But the reality is that we don’t operate in a bubble, that we are working to live and improve ourselves in a world where we are constantly interacting with others who have their own experiences, needs, fears and dreams.

This morning, I saw something posted by someone I know well and it cut deep. I felt very personally attacked. After I meditated, I unpacked my feelings around what had happened in the context of two books I’m currently reading.

The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz

Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert

  1. Be impeccable with your word.
    1. Speak with integrity, Say only what you mean
      1. Argue for your limitations and you get to keep them. - Elizabeth Gilbert
      2. What if you talked to yourself as if you were talking to the person you love most in the world?
    2. Do not speak against yourself
      1. Have you ever felt better by lashing out? By gossiping? Or by complaining?
      2. We only have so much time and energy. If we use it to complain about others, to criticize others or to find fault in them, that’s time that could be spent with those we love, towards working towards our dreams, to give to those in need. It’s time we NEVER get back.
    3. Avoid gossiping about others
      1. What would your highest and best self say?
    4. Use your word in the direction of love and truth
    1. Nothing others do is because of you.
      1. Ask, are they hungry, tired or stressed? 95% of the time, that’s the situation.
    2. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream
      1. THis is TOUGH!!! But think of this…. which is more painful… NOT pursuing the thing that you are called to do, whether that’s creating a course, coaching, opening up a creative business, speaking…..because someone criticized or judged you? Because they wounded you with a pin prick of their opinion? Or not bringing forth to life something YOU were uniquely meant to do?
        1. YOU DO NOT NEED ANYONE’S PERMISSION TO LIVE A CREATIVE LIFE - Elizabeth Gilbert (Big Magic)
        2. Grieve if you must, but grieve efficiently - Elizabeth Gilbert
    3. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering.
  2. Don’t take things personally
    1. Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want
      1. This might not even have been about me!!
    2. Communicate as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings and drama
  3. Don’t make assumptions!
    1. Your best will change from moment to moment, from when you are healthy to sick
      1. You can measure your worth by your dedication to your path, not by your successes or failures.
        1. “You don’t get any special credit for knowing how to be afraid of the unknown” Elizabeth Gilbert
      2. You not what is NEVER our best? Self sabotaging because we are afraid. Afraid of failure, afraid of others opinions.
      1. Do you have the courage to bring forth the treasures that are hidden within you? - Elizabeth Gilbert
    2. Do your best and you’ll avoid self judgement and regret.
  4. Always Do Your Best
